Young animal or adult one?

If you decide to buy a leopard gecko, the first question is what age should be the future new member of the family?

If you are just starting out and have no experience with keeping them, it is better not to choose a baby. Leopard geckos are born wild and therefore not accustomed to hands. However, with time they get used to people and then it is already much easier to take care of them.

Moving is also stressful for the animal. The baby needs time to get used to the new owners and the new environment. Therefore, it will probably not eat food in a new place for several days and this is quite normal. But leopard gecko babies up to 1 month old need to be fed daily. If it does not eat for several days, it will lose a lot of weight for weeks as a consequence, which will have a negative effect on its health.

Therefore, if you do not have experience in keeping leopard geckos, do not buy an animal too young. It is better to take an older baby aged 1-3 months.

If you want to buy a gecko of certain sex, you need to buy an already adult animal. Everyone knows that the incubation of eggs at certain temperatures does not give a 100% guarantee of whether it will be a female or a male. Somitsollten you should take a leopard gecko, where it is already possible to visually identify the sex.

If you already have a Leopard Gecko and decide to buy it a boyfriend or girlfriend, remember that the two partners should be about the same size, otherwise a larger Leopard Gecko can cause serious injury to a smaller one. So, if you have bought a leopard gecko, which is still small compared to another, you need to keep it in a separate terrarium until it reaches about the same size. It is also necessary to explain that 2 males do not get along with each other. If you want to keep several geckos in one terrarium, then females will fit as a perfect group.
Before you put the geckos together, you need to know the sex of the animals. It is better to introduce both or more animals to each other for the first time on neutral territory to avoid conflicts. There is always a possibility that the geckos will not get along, so prepare a separate enclosure just in case.
